  • Kyle Finck

    Director

    An experienced leader in journalism innovation, Kyle is a founding member of YJC and joined the team as director in June 2023. Kyle is focused on the future of journalism, from who has access to joining a high school publication to the influence of the Open Social Web and AI in building sustainable media models. Previously, he led youth journalism at the Los Angeles Times and helped build the News, Sports & Video business at Apple.

  • Miriam Galicia

    High School Intern

    Miriam is a senior at the Institute for Collaborative Education, with a great passion for creative writing and advocacy work. She participates in her Student Council and works to ensure that school can be a welcoming experience for all students. Miriam, who grew up in Harlem, believes in the importance of journalism, especially within communities that are often forgotten and underrepresented. In her free time, she enjoys reading novels and trying different cafes around the city.

  • Sophie Mode

    College Fellow

    Sophie is studying education and urban studies at Vassar College. She is on the steering committee of Arlington Partners Against Racism, a parent anti-racist advocacy group working in the Arlington Central School District. She is a public school alumna from Brooklyn. During high school, she was a leader at Teens Take Charge, a youth-led organization working for integration and equity in NYC public schools, and a founding member of the Service Learning Project Youth Board, which fights for culturally responsive action civics.

  • Lyric Thomas

    College Fellow

    Lyric is a Pace University undergraduate majoring in Political Science and Pre-Law. She supports YJC communications and manages the Student Journalism Affinity Group. Lyric got involved with YJC through a summer internship with Press Pass NYC, where she focused on communications and marketing. Her time with YJC has greatly informed her understanding of the NYC education system and helped sharpen her advocacy skills, which she plans to use after graduating.

  • Makenna Turner

    High School Intern

    Makenna is a senior at the Institute for Collaborative Education and is dedicated to building an engaging and uplifting community. She is the co-president of the Community Service Club, where she works to bring her school community together through events and fundraising. She believes in making a space for everyone and allowing their voices to be heard. Makenna was born in Brooklyn. She has a passion for psychology and behavioral science, which she has pursued through college-level programs at Wellesley College and Hunter College.
